“Illegitimi non carborundum” is a mock Latin aphorism meaning “don’t let the bastards grind you down”.
My grandfather would say it when I was younger as a way of saying keep your chin up kid, or toughen up.
My family has continued the use of it on a regular basis and I have it tattooed on my arm.
My father recently asked me to paint him a picture of Archangel Michael, so I included the banner as it seemed appropriate for the image.
